Frequently Asked Questions about Volunteerism
Q. Why does my
netball club need volunteers?
A. A new recruit could spread the tasks across more people and
lighten the load or enable something new to start up that there
hasn't been time for before.
Q. When should
volunteers be recruited?
A. Recruitment needs to be an all year round activity and not
just something that is undertaken when for example that new committee
needs to be set up!
Q. Do you need
special training to be a volunteer?
A. No usually, an interest in netball and some spare time is all
that's needed. You may decide that you want to help with coaching
or umpiring then you will be able to attend South African Netball
courses and learn the new skills that you'll need. There are plenty
of opportunities for everyone.
Q. Where do you
find volunteers?
A. Volunteers can come from within the existing membership of
South African Netball or from other outside groups, you do not
have to play netball to support netball.
Q. Why Volunteer
at all?
A. The reasons for volunteering can be looked at two ways, what
netball can offer YOU the volunteer and what YOU can offer to
netball, but most of all because it's enjoyable.
Q. 'Why be a parent
or friend sitting in the car or rushing back and forth, why not
join in and help in some way?'
A. Volunteer today, send in your details via the website or contact
your local netball club direct.
Q. I am only 14
years old, can I volunteer, if so what can I do?
A. There's plenty for everyone to do, you could be one of the
ballgirls at South African International events through your school
or you could help others with netball for primary aged children
near where you live. - The 'Q' Award for umpires would set you
on the way to becoming an umpire and you would be ideal for Dragon
netball events.
Q. There's nowhere
locally for my daughter to play netball, what can I do?
A. Start up a club of your own. There's plenty of help available
including finance for new clubs, contact your nearest Development
Officer, email them through this website and ask for help, they'll
be pleased to hear from you.
